Comments:
Chores, low band antenna work, and Stew Perry Warmup kept me out of the chair
(not that the chair is comfortable!) The high bands were so busy in daytime
that I negleced "old reliable" 20 meters until the final hour, when I had only
three dozen Qs in the bag. 40 was great fun both nights, but 80 was largely
empty every time I checked.
Most contestants exchanged an age other than zero or 99. The event was brought
to us by the Geriatric RTTY Association of the World:
Age range Nr
10-19 0
20-29 2
30-39 16
40-49 68
50-59 101
60-69 131
70-79 64
80-89 3
90-98 1 (age 93)
Above distribution is not scientific, because many stations were worked on
multiple bands, but you get the idea. Are we Old Timers replacing ourselves in
our hobby?
There are still many copies of my primer, "Contesting and RTTY--The Basics"
available. Many ops in this event could benefit from a copy, and one is yours
for the asking. For your .pdf copy, just send an email to me, and you'll have
a copy well before the WAE RTTY next month!
Many thanks to JARTS and to all who participated!
73, dan k7ia
