Comments:

What a turnout by the mobiles! Temps started out sub zero and "warmed" into the
single digits in most areas with snow squalls! Rich, N0HJZ/M said once he was
going to be in a new county soon, I asked how soon and he answered, "It's
snowing pretty hard; I have to get my bearings and find a road", what
dedication! Hats of also to Bob, W0BH and his driver who drove all the way up
from south KS to take part in the "madness". I didn't do very well tracking Bob
thru his route (SSB QRM, more later), but really appreciate the effort of all
the mobiles. Without all of the mobile activity, I would never have stuck with
it all day as I started out feeling tired. I tried to watch the clock and go no
longer than 10 minutes without checking 20 and 40 for new mobile Q's. I could
have done better with the mobiles, but was able to run some guys too. Rich,
N0HJZ was very easy to find as he ran his route sitting on the same 20M phone
frequeuncy nearly all day. Here are my mobile QSO totals:

            QSO'S COUNTIES

W0BH, BOB 27 16

Conditions on 20 were open all day an quite excellent except for the first hour
when signals were weak to moderate and the last 30 minutes or so when some but
not all MN stations started skipping over me. 40 was better than expected, but
too much local rag chew activity to catch much on phone until the sun got low
in the sky. I should have checked 40 more often. Several times I had to wait in
line for a while as the mobiles worked much louder stations closer in; the worst
time was about 17-20Z. But, by an large I was heard by the weak mobiles pretty
well.

My next to last Q running on 40 phone in the last half hour was Koochiching for
a new one! With 4 hours to go, I didn't think I would even come close to a sweep
only missing Benton Co which was surrounded by counties where mobiles were
worked, so I would guess it was covered. Again, thanks for the mobile efforts
in miserable weather.

20 phone was absolutely loaded with activity in the MNQP activity area. This
weekend besides the winter Wx is far from ideal from a scheduling standpoint.
There was QRM on 20 phone from the VTQP, BCQP, a little from DEQP, 2 special
event stations on all day, ragchews, and SSTV. Being a part time CQ'er, I
mostly had to work quite a bit below or above the MN and other activity to find
a fairly clear frequency. Then, on CW there were the BS (no kidding), FYBO, King
of Spain, and an RTTY contest to contend with. The EA's were pretty loud and
numerous way up around 3550 at the end. The RTTY/SSB QRM was quite limiting on
40 CW in the evening.

Many thanks to all for the Q's and the oh so close sweep. My score was 13K
better than my personal best in 2011 with 7 more mults. Thanks to MWA for a
fine well orgainzed event including covering all counties and getting ARES
stations involved in some rare counties.

73, Jeff
