Hi all,
Well, I am left wondering just why I decided to enter the 6-hour section only
on Sunday. Got up at around 0640, made a coffee and went to the shack prepared
for some nice pile-ups on 40m, but that didn't happen.
I was very pleased to bag PJ7/N1SNB for a new band-slot there, but after that,
it was only a few EU stations.
So, on to 20m. Have I got the right weekend? If so, where is everyone.
Then I check spaceweather(dot)com and see that a large CME hit us just before.
I ought to have called it a day after one hour, taken a 3-hour break and
started again, but I had been given "leave of absence" for 3 hours in the
morning, and 3 in the afternoon by the "camp commandant", so I stuck it out for
3 hours, but wish I had taken up knitting instead!
Still, the afternoon was better, but most W's had seriously heavy flutter on
the signals.
Oh well, at least I got my low-band antennas repaired after our Force 9 gales
and serious blizzard conditions on Monday/Tuesday of this week.
Yes, Guernsey had snow! Around 6" to 8" of it, and wind-chill temps of below
-10C, which is very unusual.
My wires had a 1/2" coating of ice, and that plus Force 9 winds, pulled them
down.
Not often we get snow, and very rare to get that much. According to the media,
it was the worst snowfall for 30 years.
