QSO # includes "dupes" .
To say there was a lack of propagation up here would be an extreme
understatement. Never before have I seen a contest as bleak. N1MM has
calculated I spent 2 hrs and 49 minutes, but it was probably more like 24 hours
and 9 minutes..if you count rolling the VFO knob back and forth and spinning the
rotor round and round.
Then there's the time spent tuning below 6m to make sure the local baby
monitors are still audible and walking out onto the deck, so I can look up
above the roof, to insure my antenna has not fallen over into the rosebushes.
Oh---my---gosh-----everything is working, but there is JUST NO PROP.
Early Sunday afternoon I was sure 6m was gonna pop open. I was hearing some
weak-ish Es on 10m, and a few of the stronger FM18(and area) gang were popping
through on MS. It's gonna happen...It's gonna happen,,....
It didn't happen. With the sole exception of my QSO with VY0HL, all QSO's were
made on groundwave or meteor scatter. Thankfully, there are still some FB ops
around that'll do 33-35wpm CW and keep messages real short.
I tried a number of times with K8GP and a couple other big fellas, but the op
at the other end was not "getting it" and had long and drawn out
messages so we never completed. SORRY !
Others up this way had it at least as bad. At least my Ridgetop QTH and SB-226
(King Conversions) with a small 6ele yagi helps somewhat. 2m antenna laying on
the ground. Maybe I'll install it for CQ-VHF.....maybe.
SEan Kx9x in FN45 was heard ever-so-briefly but no completion. He was working
real hard to put on that rare grid for the FFMA Award-chaser gang.
I heard 3 or 4, FN64 folks....so seems that one will be dropping off a few grid
hunters lists.
See you (all of a sudden) (or not) on SIX !
VE9AA Mike FN66.....
