Comments:

EXCITEMENT TOWARD THE END! Too many conflicts to operate seriously this year.
The 2nd op for a multi didn't make it. No 6M Es, and 6M meteor scatter poor or
with little random activity. Tropo conditions flat until last 2 hours of the
contest when tropo to NY, NJ, PA and New England big guns created excitement
with 7 stations over 500 miles worked on 2M including W2SZ FN32 (NEW GRID from
here) 690 miles (also 222), K1TEO FN31 646 miles, WS2E FN21 583 miles, W2LN
FN21 581 miles, W2EA FN21 573 miles, K8ZES FN02 538 miles, WA4GPM FN11 517
miles. Worked W4IY FM08 and K3TUF 480 miles on all 5 bands including my 1296
with 10 watts here. I did not have 902/3 and 2304 operational.
I log by hand, writing info on sheets of paper and typing data into my
computer, sometimes long after the contact, and have not sent results into
League for several years because my log, no doubt, has some errors or omissions
which would penalize others whose logging is better. My poor hearing also makes
an occasional mistake inevitable.
I have not yet been able to configure my several transverters with the Flex
5000 for computer logging which would prevent errors. Instead, I used an old
Yaesu 736R for 222, 1296, and my one WSJT 2M sked, a Kenwood TS-790 on 144 and
432, and the Flex 5000 on 6M. Amps were 100 watt bricks on 222 and 432. Ran
tube amps at up to 900 watts on 144 and 50.
Only one rover heard, and local/regional activity was down. With the
cooler, dryer weather my line noise was bad to the south and west where I made
very few contacts. Apologize for that. This is my 56th year of operating VHF
contests!
