Comments:

First time back into contesting after a hiatus of over 10 years. Couldn't get
motivated to operate here in California after giving up my nice contest station
in Iowa - but I eventually (10 years later!) got over that.

Operated from the Collins Amateur Radio Club station, W6CXX, here at the plant
in Tustin, CA. Antenna is a trap vertical for 40-10 on the top of our building.
We have a consistent S7-S8 industrial noise level on all bands, so I felt rather
like an alligator - no ears at all. Rig is an FT-1000MP MkV I carted in from
home - after digging it and all the pertinent gewgaws out of storage. The QTH
is in a corner of an engineering lab here. Came in at 4:30 AM Sunday morning to
find a security guard examining the room thermostat. Turns out the AC failed at
some point, probably while I was operating the night before, and the room temp
had risen to 82F. Fortunately, they got a big (noisy) fan to blow some cool air
in from other parts of the building, so it didn't get unbearable during the day
Sunday.

One thing I noticed that's different about contesting from California than from
Iowa. Back there, there were only a few contest stations in the state. Here,
there's a bunch. It was a challenge finding a freq on the higher bands since I
couldn't hear them - they skipped right over me and I probably ended up calling
right on top of some of them, until I figured out that people were coming back
to a different station. That didn't happen too much in IA.

All told, I had a great time and it was good to get back in the saddle again.
Thanks everyone for the Qs and putting up with my rusty skills.
