Comments:
Year Two of the PAQP from central Ohio using COOKEN ARC club call WW8OH showed
a score increase over last year. Looks like we came up 23 cw qsos and one
county short of catching our nemesis N4PN, the outstanding SOHP station in GA.
We again ran two barefoot transmitters ( ssb and cw) with 100w. output feeding
a 160 ft horizontal loop at 70 ft and a Fritzel multiband inverted V apex at
40 ft. with five ops on ssb and two ops on cw. N3FJP software.
WX was perfect. Food was excellent. Camraderie was outstanding. Hospitality
shown by host operator Brad, AC8GX, was par excellence. Conditions were good
but 40/80m rates weren't as high as last year for some reason. Sat started
fairly well but really thinned out for the PSU-Michigan football game from
5-9pm. A coincidence? Or did all you PA hams pull the Big Switch to watch the
game?
Sunday was a slow steady slog that only picked up a tad for the final two
hours. Memory keyers got a real workout. My right index finger has a large red
spot on the tip. Spent a lot of unexpected time changing bands looking for
new calls. 20 and 160 were stronger than usual. Being just 100 mi west of the
PA line, 40 and 80 are our mainstays, rain or shine.
Time to strategize for 2013. Our thanks go out to all who worked us and
especially the amazing job by the mobiles and rovers who kept us alive down the
