Comments:
I am still recovering from the past weekend...conditions were amazing, and
scores indicated that. We were a few op's short, coupled with a number of
computer and audio/voice keyer problems from the start. A lot of time was spent
trouble shooting and some improvements were made.
160m W4SVO TenTec Orion and Alpha 77 and 3x3/8 wave verticals and beverages
80m W4IX TenTec Orion and Henry 3K and 12 ele LPDA at 140 ft and beverages, the
80m M MULT station was unmanned most of the weekend.
40m RUN VE7ZO TenTec Orion and Henry 2k Classic and 3/3 stack and beverages
40m MULT N4XL FT1000MP and Henry 3KD and 4 el KLM at 155 ft and beverages
20m RUN K4NV & W4IX TenTec Orion and Alpha 77 8/5/5 stack
20m MULT K5AUP & KM4HI TenTec Orion and Henry 3K Classic and 4 el at 80 ft
15m RUN K4BAI TenTec Orion and Henry 3KA and 8/8/8 stack
15m MULT AG4W TenTec Orion and Henry 3KA and 6 el at 105 ft
10m RUN NQ4I,W4SVO,N4FD,VE7ZO, and others Orion and Alpha 87A and 7/7/7/7
stack
10m MULT W4DD,NQ4I,and nearly every other op too Orion and Alpha 78 and 5/5/5
stack
We had two Orions that had internal failures. We had a number of computer audio
problems that only manifested themselves when all 11 stations were on the
air...seems that by them selves they were just fine, but with all the extra rf
in the area they went south....one Henry 3k Classic died on Friday before the
test and Henry Amp Specialist KD3P made a house call and fixed it just before
the test....
A couple of us listened to K5ZD on Sunday afternoon on 20m...he was running at
a very high rate into EU and Asia and we could not hear a single station he was
working...wow!
If you look at the K3LR rates on 15m they deserve a lot of respect...our best
hour on 15m was 86...best hour on 10m was 182...and best hour on 20m was
116....
160m worked 18 zones which was a new station record on ssb...
Our total score is slightly higher than our 2011 W4 call area record, but after
log checking it will be slightly less...
This weekend we had some excellent meals...W4SVO cooked up a large pot of chili
to go along with all the other meals..and of course the NQ4I breakfast
casseroles were enjoyed by all.
I did a lot of 10m RUN this weekend since we were short of op's ...normally I
let the guest op's do all the operating and I monitor from the side lines...but
had to get involved this time...it was amazing to see the 10m band with stations
all the way to 29 mhz!! And the JA opening the last 3 hours was fantastic!
I want to thank the op's who traveled from SC, FL, and Ala to be part of the
team..a good time was had by all...
We are looking forward to CQWW CW...in this contest the conditions are more
like winter time and less like summer time that we have to fight on SSB...so
look for the NQ4I team in 4 weeks..still need a few ops' if any one is
interested drop me an email and lets talk.
73 and Thanks for all the qso's...qsl via LOTW.
