Comments:
Had a great first day, but went to bed at 0849z with a bunch of mults still
missing: NL, QC, WY, EWA, ND and NE.
Had all but EWA and NE fairly quickly on Sunday morning, but didn't find EWA
until nearly 2100z. Then the hunt was on for NE. Heard K0NE working someone on
15M, but he was on the move. I searched with no luck, so set up near the last
known coordinates and called for a while. No luck. Then, well aware that NE was
somewhere on the band, I scanned one more time -- finding K0NE calling just
before 2300z. Sweep, for only the third time (2004, 2008). Felt the anxiety
lift and really enjoyed the rest of the contest. The years you miss by a couple
make a sweep so satisfying.
15M was phenomenal short and long to NA on Saturday afternoon. Was good on
Sunday, too, but fresh calls sure were scarce.
Lowlights: The lids who fire up on a frequency without listening -- or who QRL
and wait a slit second so they can say they "did that" -- were out in
great numbers. This thuggish hijacking lack of courtesy seems worse in SS than
any other event, and some very well-known and high-performing operators should
hold themselves to a higher standard. The end does not justify the means.
Highlights: working NE for the sweep, then having two more call in over the
next hour. Same for EWA.
NL and AB were the only loners in the log. Most active sections from here: SCV
43, VA 38, MDC 38, OH 29, EPA 28.
