Comments:

The Hesston College ARC once again gave Sweepstakes, the 2013 edition, a try. We
had two very committed Air Traffic Control students working hard in practice
sessions and other on-air events, but only Jake could make it this year. The
other student's parents surprised him with a weekend visit, so he spent time
with them instead.

Jake was a lifesaver this weekend as he quickly learned to log and talk at the
same time. Our first contact was with another School station, VE9UNB, a great
start on the way to a final total of 19 schools. We especially enjoyed chatting
with the schools who took the time to visit, and most of them did! Ten meters
was also open to both coasts, so for the first time in many years, we could run
there. 10m also had some interesting short propagation as we worked NE MO AR NTX
and LA.

We started off fast with rates over 100, but the fifth and sixth hour rates
were 49 and 49 .. record lows for both hours for us and quite discouraging at
first. We just kept trying, and got some surprise 70+ rates on Sunday afternoon
which put the All-Time School record in play. We'll see if our score stands
after log checking and after other schools post their results.

Nelson/n0lra, our Physics professor, came out and helped S&P on the second
radio for awhile which filled in some much needed multipliers. It took until
Sunday, but VE8EV gave us the Clean Sweep at 1437Z. The final five section
countdown went MS, ONN, KY, IA, and NT. As usual, we also tried for a
"Sunday Sweep" and came up missing KS, NL, and VI (heard but already
worked). Thanks to all who made it into our log.

The clock is already started down to next November. See you then!
