Comments:
I'm sure this score will drop 10-15% as is my norm for CQWW but I sure had fun
on my vacation to V4. John, W5JON/V49J, has a beautiful home here with a 31'
vertical and a tuner. I thought it would be fun to play around and see what
100W and a vertical could do while on vacation with my wife. WOW, location is
everything. My wife got to have a beautiful vacation spot and I got to wear
myself out contesting so it was a win/win trip.
Conditions seemed much better the first day than the second but I was able to
find some good mults on the second day that I had missed by simply running on
day 1. V4 was well represented by Andy, N2NT, running V47T with big beams on a
mountain and high power so I decided to play in the LP slot with my K3 and the
31' vertical. I brought a GAP Titan with me but I used it as a RX antenna only
since there are some close by plasma TVs that bother the 31' vert with 10 over
noise on 40 and 80. The GAP's location was much quieter for some reason but
didn't transmit as well as the 31' vert. It made for an interesting set up
after I spray painted the GAP to match John's 31' stealth vertical. My 160
antenna basically didn't work so that is why no score on 160 but I was sure
amazed with the 40 and 80 QSOs from this 31' fishing pole vertical.
If John ever let's me come down again, I'll bring some ferrite beads for my
little HP Netbook computer because it locked up over 75 W on 15 and 160. I
wasn't sure the Atom processor in the Netbook could send code and log too but
it ran well with 3600 QSOs in the database. I need to send my log quickly
though in case it fails to get home with me.
Thanks for all the Qs and fun!! (I really shouldn't write this when I'm dead
tired because it doesn't read as well as I thought it. ;-) )
73,
Bob K5WA
