Comments:

I wanted to try out my new antenna. I converted an old 80 ft Rohn 25 with VHF
and TV antennas on it to a shunt fed vertical. It seemed to worked pretty well.
It beat the heck out of my old inverted v. I made a new beverage to aim west,
but all I hear on it is a power line noise leak at 59+10. It was not useful at
all. I used the vertical for a stateside receiving antenna. I could tell I was
not hearing well at the extreme distances. The EU beverage works like a hose
though. All cw done with my trusty paddle. At times I got pretty spastic.
Contact breakdown: NA=745, AS=1, EU=135, SA=2. I thought the best Europe
signals were at sunrise on Saturday. Sunday was pretty good too. SV3RF was over
S9 on both the beverage and the vertical on Sunday. I thought he was in EPA at
first! The west coast was a struggle. I missed several CA sections. I also
missed Nebraska for some reason. I called K0HA on Sunday morning 2 hours after
my sunrise, but he could not hear me. I never made my sunrise on either
morning. No KL7 or KH6 heard. I hope the power Co can fix my beverage hearing
problem. I cut down a lot of trees to put that darn thing in!!
