I was struggling with myself - to participate or to give up. Finally decided to
go for check logs this time.
Why do people do contesting? Mostly because it is fun. For that there has to be
a reasonable number of QSOs available throughout the whole event. This is
particularly true for a contest like BC that makes people stay awake during
nighttime. Unfortunately, due to the format of the contest the number of
available correspondents drops to very low during the last 2 hours. My personal
worst was only one single contact during 1 hour in 2013. This is not fun anymore
�" this is really boring.
The contest needs changes badly. If it claimed to be the BALTIC contest where
the baltic stations compete with each another then discussion and involvement
of ALL 3 baltic amateur radio societies is the way to go. Proposals worth of
considering have been made by a number of stations during recent years: shift
it to an earlier time, make it shorter, make it consisting of 2 periods or make
it even multiband. Implementing a new 2 hour class in mixed mode has to be
welcomed. However, this is no relief for those going for a single mode. Will I
resume a serious entry next year? Depends on the organisers. Make a move guys.
Otherwize, no one will ever qualify for the special prize of making 500 QSOs.
