Comments:

I decided to operate from home this time, so I started preparing things the
weekend before. The station had not been touched in about 2 years, and I
encountered more than a few maintenance issues - things like a broken motor
control switch to raise and lower the tower; a shorted 80M coax connector;
incredible problems trying to get the tower to load on 160M with my Nye Viking
tuner; something terribly wrong with the Amp Supply amp for the second radio
(two of the three 3-500Zs in it decided to stop lighting up); two non-working
switching relays in the Six-Pack; and new RF issues in the shack and with the
alarm system and carbon monoxide detector.

I either fixed or found work-arounds for everything, and luckily there
were no issues during the contest itself.

Conditions were pretty good overall, which is a bad thing for me. I had
the usual problem I've experienced in many past CQPs of not being able to do
much of anything on 15 or 10 - this being because we're too close here and most
times just skip right over California. Probably 3/4 of my 10 and 15M QSOs were
on backscatter. Twenty was really good though, with lots of short skip to all
parts of W6.

In hindsight the decision to use the special CF7 prefix was both good and
bad. It did help attract some more attention on SSB, but I was surprised by
the number of stations on CW that could not copy my callsign on the first
send.

Thanks to all for the QSOs, and to the organizers in NCCC, it was another
fabulous Party!

73,
Gary
