Comments:
I decided to participate in the 10-Meter Contest about a week prior. I operated
from an alternate QTH in Ormond Beach, which had no rig or antenna. A friend
was kind enough to loan me a TS-590S (I've been wanting to try this rig), and
on Thursday afternoon I homebrewed a dipole and strung it between two small
trees in the front yard using a fishing pole and a spoon. I operated Friday
night until about 2330 local time and all day Saturday until the band died. I
quit shortly after noon on Sunday as I had other responsibilities to attend to.
>From my point of view, the radio conditions were better on Sunday. The EU
opening on Sunday produced louder signals and a longer opening. Stateside
signals were also louder on Sunday. I enjoyed the contest very much, and there
was OJ in the air. I enjoyed the TS-590S. The receiver sounded good, even
better than the IC-7600 I believe. I see a lot of high scores being posted, so
hopefully FCG will fare well. ~ 73 John N4EEB
