Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington retirement community
in FM 18. For the 2014 Stew Perry, ops N3UM and K3DI agreed that
N3UM would run nearby stations early in the evening and K3DI would
look for high-point-value DX QSOs later. Starting at 21Z N3UM made
QSOs out to a several hundred miles. Later there were VE3s and
plenty of US stations east of the Rockies, but none west of there.
Only "DX" was VI! No EU stations were heard. It was possible to
run at moderate rates until 0216 Z. Coming in after that, K3DI
made some west-coast-US QSOs and some in the Caribbean with high
point value (P4, HI, NP2), but no EU QSOs. In the recent ARRL
160 m. the same op (K3DI) with the same station made 8 EU QSOs in
7 countries, with propagation we thought good but not great. So,
for us in FM18, 160 m. DX propagation in the Stew was poor.
