Comments:

Thanks for the QSOs! Always fun to see the old familiar and new calls in RTTY
Contesting. It certainly seems that it has grown over the 22 years that I have
been participating. I think that the first year I played in RU was 1993 and I
had 278 Qs, man! I thought that was a big effort, how times have changed!
Congratulations to all!

All in all, I think that my station did pretty good. I never had a bit trouble
with anything.

I thought that band conditions were up and down. 10m was pretty pitiful
considering how well it had been leading up to the event. 15m seemed to do
very well, as well as 20m/40m. I did not expect to do very well with 80m,
because one leg of my inverted vee is caught on the guy wire and I am sure that
it affecting its performance.

WX was challenging here on Sunday morning, rain static was 20 over S9 on 40m.
Worked a few stations and I know that there were others calling, so my
apologizes for not being able to hear you! I gave up for a few hours and took
my YL to breakfast and when I got back it had cleared up.

This was the first time in the last 10 years that I was able to get the SO2R to
consistently work. Unfortunately the 6x2 switch bit the bullet during a small
tornado that we had last summer. However was able to get a "limited"
SO2R setup working with 10/20/80 on left radio and 15/40 on the right radio.
Used the K2TX stubs and they worked perfectly. Just a barely noticeable bit of
noise between 10 and 15m and I am sure that was because those antennas are only
about 6 feet apart on the same tower.

Being very very rusty with the SO2R setup, I did not start to well with the
second radio. In fact I really just did a few to get my feet wet again. The
first few hours I really had a hard time thinking about it. But as the contest
moved on, I began to think that I had more time to tune it and so it was.
According to Cabrillo Statistics 13.6% of my QSOs were made on the second radio
in total. Actually I think that I did much better on Sunday with the second
radio, so perhaps with some more practices that percentage will go up.

The hardest obstacle to overcome now is staying in the seat. The FT mental and
physical challenge may be just to much anymore. I enjoy the activity, so not
ready to give up yet... hi

OK, thanks again for the QSOs and Happy New Year.

Jim/KC4HW
