Comments:

This was the first contest with a pair (45°/225°)(135°/315°) of KD9SV
Beverages. In my opinion they worked spectacularly! I could hear
everyone...but running 150W to an OCF dipole, all could not hear me. It was
like dangling a gourmet meal in front of someone on a diet!

My morning plans of catching the western gray line propagation was aborted by a
4AM fire in my network equipment closet. I heard a pop and when I turned around
he inside of the closet was lit up yellow with smoke pouring out the top of the
doorway! A fire extinguisher later it was out, but so was doing anything else
for the rest of the day. I am just thankful it did not occur when I was at
work, because it would have cost me everything I own including my dogs (who own
me).

Moral: don't ignore your senses, I had smelled hot plastic earlier but could
not determine where it came from. Also, keep good charged fire extinguishers
at hand at all times, watch out for cheap equipment.

I had fantastic luck last night, just not with Ham Radio!

Cheers!

Howie
