Note to self - start contest set-up more than 30 minutes before the start of the
contest and check if the antennas are all working... My wires were barely
hearing anything and a quick VSWR check showed them in the 8:1 or worse range.
I guess the snow and cold got to them. The good news is that the GAP antenna
worked like a champ.
During the contest, I had a major decision to make. While reaching over to
adjust my rig, I knocked over a can of soda. It spilled on my desk, on my
pants, on my chair, and on my carpet. Its a good thing I didn't have a VOX
enabled microphone nearby - but here was my dilemma - do I let the station I'm
working go and clean up my mess, or do I finish the contact then take care of
the spill. Well, it was a multiplier, so I finished with him before running
for rags....
Station set-up: Kenwood TS-590, GAP Challenger Antenna, WriteLog v11.24J (After
working with N1MM at NR4M's last weekend, I think I may swap over when this
license expires).
