Comments:
This was my first appearance in a DX contest using my own call in a long time.
Wes SP4Z and I threw up some sloping dipoles off the bare tower shortly before
the contest which got me on the air on all bands except 10 and 160. I’ve
been guest-operating big stations for a number of years so being weak was
interesting, even fun.
This was a “back to the roots” experience as I made my first contacts as a
Novice exactly 50 years ago. It was a bit nostalgic, feeling like I was
starting all over. I didn’t use the computer to key the radio but I did not
give up computer logging or use a straight key. It was also a relief not to
be rock-bound to just two frequencies as a Novice in the 1960’s with a 25
watt crystal-controlled transmitter ;)
