Comments:
All wire antennas plus a bad voice kept me from a serious attempt ( ie more
hours and CQing.)
So I started with a goal of working new countries on 160, and testing the new
SAL-30 rx antenna. By Sat afternoon the slowness of the pace on Top Band and
seeing just how good cndx were on 40-10, I put my toe in the water on each
band. Overall, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa were pretty much MIA on my wire
antennas, 10 was simply outstanding to EU and SA ( muito obrigado Brasil!). 40
was a wall of 59+ EUROs that my 2 el phased array kept picking off one by one
with minimal effort. 20 was loaded with mults. 15m was more challenging and
signals seemed to be at times scrambled together ina big mess. But 10 was
glorious with elbow room and 1.7 MHz worth of strong signals. JAs were in
there but not producing any real runs on my single qtr wave GP. ( I yearned for
my old KT34XA again.)
6 Band QSOs: 8p5a, p49y, pj2t, pj4g, wp2aa.
plus 5x5banders and 25x4banders.
Most memorable qso was Sun morning just as the first rays of sunshine were
popping over the horizon and into my eyes, I was working a T48 when in mid-qso
I heard a loud COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, then slight pause followed
by "59100". The professional op carried on like nothing had
happened, but to me the rooster sounded like he was sitting on the ops
shoulder. My sunshine and his rooster made a perfect combination.
Best DX: HZ, TA, TF, 9K, HS.
Where was Africa?
Most Q's: PY followed by EA and I. Just 19 JA's.
20m led with most multipliers. 10m had most QSOs, but solid numbers from
40-10. A single op had a hard time choosing where to spend time, there were so
many options.
Summary: While some WW openings were lacking, EU and SA were fantastic on Day
2.
The energy gained from very good HF cndx kept me going way beyond expectations.
