Comments:
About same number of QSO's as last year... but many fewer oblasts than last
year.
At the starting gun I thought I might actually try throwing some phone into the
mix too if conditions were good or if family schedule permitted it. After all, I
did some phone in IARU HF contest, which is also a 24 hour contest. But not to
happen - the rates on CW were plenty high to keep my attention for my limited
time in the chair, and the rules do not seem to differentiate between CW and
phone mults like in some other contests.
Last year very good conditions to Russia on 10M and 15M were huge in oblast
totals. This year 15M was painfully slow to open (and of course many EU's have
their antennas pointed the wrong way to work me, so I can hear them, but they
cannot hear me!).
But after the slow start, 20M was a heckuva lot of fun in the afternoon, as was
40M after supper.
Several stations had ridiculously and consistently long turnaround times, 5
seconds or more. I could keep myself in good cheer by going to Youtube and
listening Bob and Ray's classic "Slow Talkers of America" routine.
