LOCATION : ISLE OF NORTH UIST, OUTER HEBRIDES, SCOTLAND
I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THE ARRL CONTEST - IT'S A GREAT WAY OF CHECKING
PROPAGATION INTENSIVELY. MY PARTICULAR FASCINATION BEING LOWBAND ON 80M.
I ARRIVED AT THE STATION 10 DAYS BEFORE THE CONTEST TO REPAIR HURRICANE
DAMAGE IN JANUARY. SURPRISED THAT 3 OUT OF 6 MASTS HAD SURVIVED!
SOME OF THE EARTH SYSTEM HAD BEEN BLOWN UP BY LIGHTNING THE
PREVIOUS CHRISTMAS. I'D RENEWED SOME BUT NOT ALL FOR THE CONTEST.
CONDITIONS RATHER POOR ON 80M ALL WEEKEND. EAST COAST USA/CANADA ABOUT
10-20 DB DOWN ON NORMAL/GOOD CONDITIONS AND THE USA/CANADA WEST COAST WERE VERY
WEAK EVEN HERE AT THE WESTERN EDGE OF EUROPE AT THIS LATITUDE (57.6 DEG. N).
ONLY 42 MULT ON 1ST NIGHT: BEST WERE MT,WA,BC, AND AB.
GREAT TO WORK LB AT START OF 2ND NIGHT AND CA,MB AND ND LATER
WITH A FURTHER 10 MULT GIVING 52 TOTAL.
FURTHEST WEST WORKED ON 3RD NIGHT WAS KJ9B IN INDIANA.
INTERESTED TO HEAR OK7K CALLING AT HIS SUNSET ON 80M LONG PATH, BUT DON'T THINK
HE MADE ANY QSO'S - A PITY THE CONTEST IS TOO LATE IN THE YEAR TO MAKE THIS A
POSSIBILITY ALTHOUGH MAYBE TO THE YUKON OR NWT.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CALLED. HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
