Comments:

We set up at River Valley MX Park as the River Valley Motocross Geeks. It was a
great weekend to combine hobbies.. a little riding, a little geeking. Thanks to
K5NZ for getting all the equipment together and his incredible geek knowledge. A
huge thanks to the owners of River Valley for letting us take over the prime
shady spot for the weekend. We used the tallest trees we could find to set up
an awesome 2 element 40 meter super duper wire antenna that K5NZ built. We also
found some scrap poles alongside the freeway and managed to lash those to the
motorhome and hung a tribander off the top. It worked surprisingly well. AE5FZ
and KD5SQR had some nice runs on Sunday. We also were able to introduce a Texas
MX legend to the wonders of ham radio.. I won't be surprised when he passes his
test.. along with a couple of others who took the time to make a few contacts.
Also hanging in the trees was a 6 meter vertical that was built at the last
minute, hoping to take advantage of any openings we might get. I was pretty
excited to make my first 6 meter contacts.. ok, I was really more excited that
my lackluster soldering skills actually worked. We ran everything on a 1000
watt Honda generator that worked like a champ. Also thanks to AE5FZ's family
for providing some great eats, Karl for providing the grill and anyone else who
was forgot. Great to hear so many kids on the air.... and thanks to everyone who
worked us.
