Comments:

Saturday conditions looked like it was to be a long weekend but
Sunday saved it. 15 didn't seem to want to shut down as it went
on until late Sunday afternoon and produced as many QSOs as 20 until I
returned to 20 to close out the contest. 40 meters was quite
noisy Friday evening but improved Saturday night. 20 was - well 20.
>From here in the lower Midwest it was hardly worth a look at 80 - well\at least
with my Vee in Oklahoma. A couple of jaunts to look at 10 meters and
nothing even a move didn't work. I see where N5AW mentioned ten was
open briefly so I guess I missed it.

I looked back at my WAE certificates for the late nineties and early
2000s. This score almost doubled my best showing in 2001 so I am pleased.
All the equipment performed without a hitch.

Only a handful of nasties. On 15 meters there were a couple of
quite bad clickers (The calls start with C for Charlie and have
a R for Roger) in them - just sayin'. One ole boy had some kind
of receiver that must have been made by Hoover as he complained
when I cranked up above him with the K3 after making sure I was
far enough away to not bother anyone. Claimed the frequency was
busy. Didn't seem that way to this old timer but to avoid any
battle I simply found another one which turned out to last me
several hours on 15 meters Sunday.

I want to thank the WAE folks for another good showing. I enjoy
this contest almost as much as WW. Being a qualifier for WRTC
there were some of the top guys in it. After following WAE since
the sixties, when Walter DJ6QT was Master of Ceremonies, I continue
to be amazed at the skill of the European operators copying those
blazing QTCs. Perhaps some automation is helping them nowadays as
I only ran into a couple who were obviously writing them on paper.
Fairly long waits for their R. No problem. It brought back memories.
Regardless of any automation you still have to crank 'em in a log.
Speaking of automation, what a deal that N1MM QTC screen is. Heck,
send 'em multiple ways and use the little Send buttons if you want
to. I made a couple of errors especially with one call sign that I
had a 4 digit number in. I kept stopping the sending of that
particular QTC before the last digit got cranked. Error because it
kept showing it's head in the QTC list and likely ended up getting
reported 4 or even 5 times. Not sure how to handle that one except
to let the log checkers know about it.

Great contest as usual. Big European signals and very good operators.
Thanks to the sponsors for their many years of support for this one.

73, Jerry K5YAA

Rig: K3 to an Alpha 9500 (Smooth combination). 6el 15 6el 20 and 3el
40 all Force 12 antennas. N1MM + logging - a real piece of work.
