Comments:
Thanks to VE7UF who once again let me use his superb M/M station.
The antennas are optimized for CW so I entered as low power running the
ICOM-756's barefoot and letting the internal tuner tame the SWR with hopefully
letting a few watts through to the antenna.
Conditions were quite good, I could never even dream about running Europe from
VE7 with 100W in a WW contest but plenty of stations anwsered my S/P calls to
pad the log with mults.
Hard is the life of the unassisted low power guy but the rewards are also
great. Sure wore out the big knob tuning up and down and learnt to deal better
with rejection while waiting my turn for some of those EU mults. I still have
to figure out when to give up and when to wait 15-20 QSOs before I can get
through.
Had a nice run of US Midwest on 10m and 20m, amazing that even 100W can raise a
couple of hundred callers, though looking at the cluster after the contest it
seems my runs closely coincided with being spottted.
Thanks to all who heard me!
73,
Gabor, VE7JH
