Friday night started slow for me. For whatever reason, I just couldn't get into
the swing of things. After 3 hours or so, I pulled the plug and went to bed.
Saturday morning was much better, with 15 meters open world-wide. I started
with EU, then followed propagation to SA, then to the Pacific. I was able to
take several breaks during the day - even playing with the grandkids for a
couple of hours during the afternoon. Saturday night found me on 40-M working
into EU and the Caribbean. I turned in again around 2130 local time, so that I
could get an early start on Sunday morning.
At 0400 local time, I managed to get myself out of the bed and into the shack.
I started on 40-M and was able to work JA, VK, ZL, KH6 and KH2. I checked 80
and picked up several stations in the Caribbean...then a quick check of 160
also netted several Caribbean stations.
Sunday afternoon EU was booming in on 20. It seemed like everyone and their
dog was on 20 - what a madhouse! Finally I decided to move to 10 to get out of
the fray.
This was my best effort so far in this contest. My pet peeve - stations not
identifying after every two or three Q's. It is very frustrating to wait...and
wait...and wait for a station to identify. Maybe this is not a big deal for
those stations using the spotter network, but for those of us working
"unassisted", it becomes very time consuming, and costs a lot of
wasted time. Maybe it is time to put a Station Identification limit in the
rules!
