Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM18OW in MD, just east of DC. For
the 2016 ARRL DX CW, I (N3UM) was the only available operator.
I decided to start with no packet or skimmer assistance and
just run, or else tune on fresh bands.
To start, results were fair on 40 m: I ran at 64/hr, but only
for 45 min. Fast S&P on 40 was then ~OK, 45/hr. for a while.
80 and 160 m. very slow: CQing ineffective, tuning got only
~30/hr. Quit at 0525 Z with 180 Qs and 85 mults.
Sat. morning rates MUCH better: ran EUs on 20 m at 102/hr.
for 1.5 hr, then 96/hr. on 15 m. for another 1.5 hr. After
lunch 20 m. again good: 160 Qs 19-21 Z. I had planned to
turn on packet/skimmer to find mults after run rates dropped.
But I never did that: I found I enjoyed tuning to find mults
the old-fashioned way.
Sun. morning EU runs again good: 95 Qs/hr on 20 m. 13-14 Z,
then 100 Qs/hr for 1.5 hr on 15 m. Summary: 15 and 20 m.
great, 76% of the total Qs; 40 m. fair, 16.5%; 160, 80, and
10 m. combined, only 7.2% of total Qs; poor. On 20 m.,
several HS, JA, and 2 long-path VKs broke into the EU runs!
