Comments:
I tried an outboard voice keyer (VK-64) with TRLinux with pretty good success.
Thanks to K9SD for the loan of the keyer for evaluation with TR. It will do
80% of what TRLog would do. Missing is the on-the-fly recording and voice
recording dropping your call on radio 2.
As normal procedure I pointed all my antennas North on Thursday night so that
on Friday I would check the indicators for correct indications. All was fine
on Friday until I tried to rotate my 80 meter 2 element to Europe. It would
not budge. Tried everything from the ground power supply at the tower base.
Found that it was not drawing any current so I guessed I had a bad connection
somewhere from the base to the rotator. It was not bad weather wise (30’s F)
so I thought I would/could make one trip up the 140’ tower. This was the
first time this has even stopped rotating. I checked connections at the top
and found no problems. In desperation I took the bottom cover off the prop
pitch motor and then realized that if I would have brought up a cordless drill
I could have turned the motor shaft (9600 to 1) ratio to at least get the
antenna pointed to Europe. I was surprised how easy with my fingers I could
turn the shaft and at that same moment I called my wife and asked her to hit a
rotate button, and the motor worked. I guess the motor was in a dead spot. I
had to turn start it again by hand so I had her rotate it to Europe where it
stayed the whole weekend. Without the antenna on Europe I would have had
trouble keeping up the motivation for a big effort.
Also had a limited distraction in that my power meter only showed about 800 to
1000 watts as opposed to normal 1500 (peak reading). The amp showed normal but
it was hard to ignore this meter. I always felt weak because of this. I think
it is the meter because today on LP it shows no power.
Even with the limited space everyone was very courteous as far as operating and
moving slightly to help out. Conditions were not super good and I had to
abandon a fair amount of Q's because of limited copying.

U.S./ VE stations.
