Comments:
This was the second outing for the new, younger! team at M6T. Unfortunately the
other member from the old days Steve G0AEV was unwell so couldn't join us this
time. This left us a bit short of manpower because Sunday in Britain is being
promoted by the greetings card companies as 'Mothers Day' and so several of our
team felt obliged to do the 2-hour drive back home on Sunday to boost the
coffers of the restaurant chains. Fortunately another Steve M1ACB came on site
to bolster the team later on Sunday but we had several hours when only one band
was being operated.
The big improvement this time was the rebuilt 40m three element beam, last used
over 10 years ago at the previous M6T site. Due to lack of manpower we didn't
crank up the 402CD for comparison but it was very clearly working! Very hard to
run co-channel though, because of splatter from Europe. We found it more
productive to run split on 40m. Disturbed conditions generally made things hard
on the high bands and there were many times when we were beaten by stations
further south in Europe. Monday was more hard work cranking down the towers and
rolling up the coax, grateful thanks to Peter M0RYB who shared the work of
putting everything away until the next contest.
