Comments:

Since my station is almost exclusively 160 Meters, but given the fact that I do
have an 80 Meter antenna system and 100 Watts of TX power available, I decided
to do a single band 80 M only after I arrived home from a day of family
activity.

I also knew that AZ Outlaw, Dave, N7AM, the only planned operation from AZ GHM,
would most likely be operating only the digital mode. Perhaps some stations
outside the 7th District would need the Graham County multiplier was an
incentive to make the effort.

The QRN level was high when I turned on the station. Since it was shortly
after sundown the only signals heard were the NEQP stations already 3 hours
into darkness. Propagation seemed decent, but the static was horrendous.

I started CQing and attracted some callers. I could not complete a contact
with quite a few stations due to the static crashes. For a while I thought it
was going to be a difficult evening.

7th District stations started showing up on the band about 0330. The shorter
distance contacts made copying easier. Around 0500 the QRN level started
decreasing and signal levels were quite good. At 0600 activity really tapered
off and the last 1/2 hour before the midnight closing bell yielded only 5
additional Qs.

Best DX were two ME stations and two HI stations. 34 states and 3 Canadian
Provinces (VE3, 5, & 7) provided the multipliers. I worked all 7th
District states and WA, the most distant, provided the highest number of Qs;
26. Outside the 7th District, CA provided the highest Q count with 25 calling
in.

Thanks for all the contacts. It was a short, fun outing.

73 de Milt, N5IA, operator of N7GP
