100 W, dipoles up 5-7 m.
Without antennas up for 80 and 160 m, I figured I needed to just pick a high
band to focus on. I've found my antenna for 15 m generally does well, and I
figured it would be open much of the day. I spent a lot of time on the
contest, but also took breaks in the mornings and afternoons if the rate wasn't
very high or if there were other things that came up around the shack. Almost
all of my contacts were search-and-pounce, despite many efforts towards
running.
With 94 confirmed DXCC on 10 meters, I occasionally checked to see if it was
open so I could get a few more in before the sunspot peak is lost. I also like
to keep some activity up there. It did open a few times, and I made some
contacts, although I didn't pick up any new DXCC slots.
I put in a few contacts on 20 and 40 m to help hand out the AE0 multiplier.
Propagation seemed a little spotty. I didn't hear much from Europe on 15 m,
and they certainly weren't hearing me. The afternoon/evening opening to Asia
was also lackluster at the beginning and middle of the contest, but was fairly
well open right at the end. During the middle of the day, the band would
fluctuate between being about right to hit the US coasts and being just a
little bit too long.
It was a fun weekend, and good to hear a lot of activity on the bands!
