Comments:

This was supposed to have been another great year teamed up again with N2IC,
Steve as another 2B2. However, mother nature pulled a "hot one" on us
with the Dog Head Fire, and Steve was called out last week to go help. So, I
decided to go "all out" for 1B1.

I used the same location as last year (as team WK5T), a nice clearing/camping
spot in the Gila National Forest, about 15mi north of Silver City, NM. And
decided to go "all wires" again, with the frustration and effort of
putting up a wire beam for 15/20 and a 40 & 80 dipole by myself, all strung
in the tall ponderosa pines. The setup was tiring and hot, with lots of flies to
contend with, but I got through it, although I probably would re-think the
decision to do this alone again!

What can I say the bands were lousy, but with the antennas some 40-50ft in the
air I was loud, especially to the E/NE. I had a few computer glitches, having
to restart N1MM 3 or 4 times, and a complete re-boot once. The major irritation
was the decision to setup inside my small truck camper, which has a square
90degree bench seat. It took a fair amount of Tylenol to get my back thru the
event. I hadn't planned to take a break at all, but with the 40M slowdown in
the night, I finally crashed for a couple of well-needed hours.

Sunday morning started off at bit slow, but a nice sporadic-E opening on 15M
saved the day. I only had about 50 Q's on 15 prior to Sunday am.

For some reason, it seemed that most all the signals were weak and
"even" signal strength in the pileups, making it difficult copy, but
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR BEING PATIENT, and hanging in there for the contact.
The pileups at times on phone were just a blur, so if I missed you - sorry I
was working as hard & fast as I could.

Thanks again for making this a good event in spite of the conditions!
See you all again next year!
Sam N5FO
