Comments:

After watching the propagatin reports earlier in the week when ZERO sunspots
were shown for several days, I didn't hold out much hope for this weekend. And
as expected, the first 8 or 9 hours were a domestic only event. Felt like a
NAQP. Only heard and worked the strongest EU HQ stations. Then by late
afternoon Saturday, the magic occurred and viola, EU appeared. With my modest
antenna farm (single tower, tribander at 65 feet, 2 el 40 at 70, half slopers
for 80/160) many signals heard were weak but could be copied with gain wide
open.

What happened to the JA opening? Not the big rush as in previous years. After
20 closed, and had a nice run on 80, things really slowed down with only S
& P on 40/80/160. Too bad I live on a small city lot and have no decent RX
antenna available. Just like N5AW and K5WA, I heard lightning not too far away,
but didn't have to QRT.

Somehow, N1MM+ froze on me around 0830z. Could have been a weird set of
keystrokes by the sleep deprived operator. Had to force quit and re-start
everything. Thankfully, the log was fine thanks to MM's developers having a
save routine after every QSO.

After 20 seemed to close, I did end up with a huge surprise calling CQ and
being answered by RI1FJ who was a real S8 here. A short while later I found
V73NS at the low end of the band calling CQ. Nice mults.

Overall, I accomplished by QSO goal of increasing last year's numbers by 10%.
But the mults (or lack thereof) were another story. Try as I might, propagation
took its toll on these numbers. A 24 hour contest is my max at this point in my
career. Lots of fun. Thanks to all for the Qs. And thanks to ZF2ET for the 2
moves to 10 and much later to 160. He and WA1FCN were the only 6 banders logged
here. 73 de Art
