Comments:

TS590SG, Dentron MLA-2500 @ 250-500 watts, Mosley PRO-67B (40-10m) at 63 ft, 40m
homebrew vertical with 24 radials, 80M Inverted V at 55 ft. N1MM+ Logger, MMTTY
and 2 Tone decoders.

Got off to a slow start, didn't feel like doing much other than search and
pounce on 20 and then 15 for most of the first hour. Warmed to the occasion
and finally decided to try running up high on 20m. First caller was ZS6WB and
then it was off to the races with nice runs on 20 then a pretty good one on 15m
in mid afternoon followed by more fun on 20m. The callers just kept coming one
after another. When things would subside for a bit, I'd chase down spots for
new mults. Happily the first of a few JA's (JO7WXN) called in on 20m at 2255.

Around 2330 Saturday I made the move to 40m and soon managed to snag EA1DR for
an EU mult. Found a spot in which to run a little below 7100 kHz and had a
great 90 minute 140 QSO run that just didn't seem to want to quit, in contrast
to others reporting mediocre 40m condx. Had to quit around 0115 as the XYL
gave the dinner call. After supper (~0200Z) I went outside in the dark and
cold with a headlamp to lower the ends of the 80m inverted Vee so that I could
extend them and get it resonant at the low end of the band. It was still in
its phone band configuration from the Phone SS and RAC Winter contest. I
should have done that earlier but forgot about it until I started thinking
about post sunset operations.

Had another great run on 80m after supper, some 140 Q's from 0233 to 0400 with
a seemingly endless supply of callers. Great fun! Went to search and pounce
on 80m for the next 40 minutes or so before going back to 40m to snag EI7M as
new mult and a few more Q's. Went QRT for the night around 0500Z. Were it not
for my intention to go to church in the morning I could have gotten up around
0900Z for a 40m JA run, but had to settle for getting on 20m in the morning for
20 minutes before heading out to church so as to at least try and snag some EU
mults. Following the spots got me DL0V, F5BEG, S53M, ON5GQ, PA3FQA, 9A5W, SN1Q
and OL7M for a quick mult boost.

Got back in the chair and on the air around 1830 Sunday afternoon and promptly
snagged VY2LI on 20m to try and fill out the VE mults. Managed to get the main
ones (VE2,3,4,5,6,7) but nothing from the Maritimes nor NT/YT/NU. Had a nice
run on 20m and spent some time on 15 as well. 10m opened and I spent about 40
minutes in the 2000 hour wandering around snagging about a couple handfuls of
QSOs, mostly out west but also including PZ5RA, KH6ZM, and even a few to the
east, 2 OH and 1 each WV and NY.

Went to 40m pretty early (2100 = 1500 local) to grab 6Y4K. Really surprised to
find 40m open that long that early. Went back to 10m again after a few 40m QSOs
and worked Ed P49X so as to work him on all 5 bands.

One interesting QSO was with YO4RYU/MM. N1MM+ showed it as a mult, but I doubt
if maritime mobiles qualify as such. Another pleasant surprise was getting
called by VP8NO on 40m during one of my runs there around 0223Z.

Did a lot more search and pounce towards the end of the contest. Towards the
end I was still lacking DC and ME. Saw a spot for 4U1WB way high in the band
on 20m. He had a pretty deep pile (I wasn't the only one looking for DC) but
finally managed to get him. I'd later work W3DQ, also in DC, but never did
find ME. Doesn't anybody in Maine do RTTY?!

Last mult worked was E51ADD in the Cook Islands on 15m. Given propagation
condx and my being QRT for all but a few minutes of the morning high band
opening to EU, mult wise it was more like an RTTY flavored SS. Did manage to
work the following DX mults: KL7, XE, TG, HP, 6Y, C), KP4, FG, HI, J3, PZ5, YV,
P4, OA, PY, CE, VP8 (Falklands), LU, CX, EA, EI, DL, F, ON, PA, I, S5, 9A, SM,
OL, JA, KH6, ZL, A3, E5 and ZS.

Look for me as V31VP next month in the CQ WPX RTTY contest.

Victor
