Comments:
Since I had to clear the farmers field, we had to do this contest with only the
160m dipole and K9AY for RX. Again however the K9AY proved to be a good RX
antenne with which we could hear more than we could work with the dipole. Since
the supporting tower wasn't fully erected, the dipole middle was at about 14m
high.
Anyway, we've beaten our previous record of QSO's and multipliers (2011) so we
are happy with the result. This year was the first time we participated in the
M/S category instead of the SO. And we must say it is nicer to be with 2
fighting the sometimes terrible QRM.
Noticeable were the large number of stations that were QRV above 1.900 MHz.
>From a QRV point of view spreading out is good, you just need an antenna that
covers 200 kHz. For next year I think we'll just add another dipole to cover
the upper 100 kHz.
Conditions the first night to NA were not that good. Second night were a lot
better and we were able to work 22 states/provinces (also a new personal record
in SSB), but no sunrise peak. However we did manage to work XE and some
Caribean. VY2ZM was always loud and already audible some time before his SS.
Nothing special to the east worked, no VK/JA.
Just a small quirk found with the TT-Orion (again ... :() which will require
some investigation. When using the F-keys in N1MM to play messages, AND talking
into the microphone at the end of the message, will often make the Acom2000a
jump into protection (spark failure I think the message was). We've had an
issue before due to the Orion producing some spurious below 1.8 MHz which we
had fixed with placing bandpassfilters in behind the TRX. But still the A2000
doesn't like the Orion. Time to win the lottery and buy a second IC-7800 :)
Also there is some RF feedback when using the Radiosports headset. Thought we
had fixed that but (grounding issue in the headset wiring) but obvious we
didn't thouroughly test that on 160m HP. So that'll keep us of the street for
some hours.
All in all we had a lot of fun, good cake and coffee.

TRX: IC7800 and Orion (interlocked)
PA: ACOM2000
