Comments:
The first night went well. The second night a snow/freezing rain storm came in.
This detuned the wire vertical antenna, which is hanging from a tall tree.
This made the SWR very high across the whole band. I cut 20 feet off the 2
elevated radials and managed to get the SWR reasonable at 1800, but it quickly
rose as I went up the band. I wanted to CQ higher up the band, where the QRM
was not so bad, like the first night, However I ended up on 1810-1825, where
the amplifier was happy. Today, after the sun came out, the antenna resonated
at 1900 KHz!
Worked all 50 states, but missed DC. Tnx to KV8S for LA, calling in at 1100Z,
long after I had given up hope of working all states. Called KE3X in DC for a
long time, but he never heard me. Started hearing the east coast at sunset,
but as usual it sure was not reciprocal. Starting calling N2CEI at sunset.
Called him every pass up the band, for 7 hours before getting the FL
multiplier.
Thanks for all the contacts. Great contest.
