Great weekend! Everything worked well and no equipment failures.
We missed Martin DL4NAC - he was supposed to join us but could not make it. Our
team welcomed a couple of new members for the weekend: Hiro JJ5GMJ, who is
working in the Boston area until early 2018, and Jim WP3A, who came for the
contest w/ his XYL Shelly. They both did a great job and we're glad they could
make it for the weekend!
During the summer and weeks before the contest some station work was
completed:
- Fix all Beverage antennas
- Installed new 90' tower w/ 5/5 on 20m (top rotary and lower antenna rotary
from ~10 degrees to 210 degrees) and 6el on 15m (fixed South)
- Took down and rebuilt 2el 80m quad for NW/SE directions...works now!
Conditions were interesting...aren't they always? 15m was a real
surprise...amazing conditions! 160m was sort of punk most of the weekend.
Saturday night seemed a bit better but only a minor enhancement at EU sunrise.
Tough going. 40m and 20m were great. 10m teased us on Saturday and was less
good Sunday. Only worked one EU on the scatter path over Africa Saturday. Heard
M6T but their antenna must have been pointed elsewhere and not over the
reflection area. Still surprised at what we *could* work on 10m.
Above all, a fun time was had by all. Thanks to Matt and Juana for their
hospitality! This marks the 22nd year at this station location! That's a lot of
hours in the chair.
Thanks to everyone who got on this weekend and special thanks to those who
traveled far and wide to put some great mults on.
