Comments:

Well, that was a bit of a struggle. The Giant One-Way RF curtain that dogs my
low power signals seemed to appear over the Atlantic more than a few times
during this past weekend, as there was the usual situation where a very strong
station couldn't hear me - and then for about 5-10 minutes suddenly I would be
able to make a flurry of easy contacts.

But let's not dwell on things that disappointed me, like my 80 meter antennas,
my 40 meter numbers, or the recent mysterious neck/back ailment that made it
painful just to sit in the chair without an ice pack wedged under my shirt.
Instead, how about a tale of contest excitement that remains a reason why I
still love to contest.

Highlight 1: I love 10 meters, so I'm checking it every 15 minutes during
daylight in hopes of grabbing a new mult. The band is dead, but I know it's
open somewhere. On Saturday, I worked some PY's, but that was it. On Sunday,
I heard PJ4Y fade in, but he was gone after no more than a minute, and I never
worked him or Zone 9. Suddenly, a very strong VE9AA appears, and I get VE (of
all things) on 10. W0AIH was in like a beacon for Zone 4 (I hope they logged
me). At one point, I hear W3LPL sign with a ZL. There is hope. A few
minutes later as I'm tuning back and forth, I hear a signal start to bubble up.
It is ZM4T. He rises out of the noise, we work, and he is gone in a minute.
Zone 32! What fun.

My other highlights would be the usual thrill of DX - hearing the 3B9 on 40
meters with a pileup that defies imagination. Working ZL on 40 meters with my
100 watts and challenged antennas. Getting my first JA's on 20 meters in a
long time, and stumbling into a Zone 30 VK as well.

I would also like to publicly apologize to those US stations that I worked, in
order to get a domestic mult. I always try my best not to do that, but
sometimes it is unavoidable. The list includes W0AIH (as noted above), NN3W,
N3QE, and K0LUZ. I never did work a US station on 160 or 40.

Thanks to everyone for all the QSO's. I hope you had fun. 73 Jamie NS3T
