Comments:
What a great contest! Given what they could have been, condx with the low K
were fantastic here except 10m and maybe 15. Always tradeoffs. This was my
first SOAB hp since the early 90's and first operation with hp on 160 (LK-500,
tks K8GL)at this QTH. I could tell by 01z Friday I wasn't competitive on 40
(hg 402ba/90ft) so I decided to maximize fun at the expense of some score. Did
the same thing Sunday morning by basically skipping the Eu run on 15 to stay
with 20. Did tune the band on the 2nd radio but forgot the 2nd radio antenna
was pointed SE so thought condx were punk. Looks like that was a
sleep-deprived mistake. Lots of great long haul skip on both 40 and 20 made
things even more fun. Mostly around sr/ss but things popped in at other times
also.
No real equipment failures. Did have a new station arrangement that was not
adequately troubleshot so had some interstation interference that was new. 40
once in a while set off the smoke alarm (about 8ft from the operating position)
and 20 trashed the 2nd radio on 10. other than that, everything pretty much
held up although the operator was having trouble with the keyboard Sunday
afternoon.
A couple times the thought popped into my head "boy, the WW is just the
greatest, this is what it's all about". Really enjoyed the contest,
thanks for all the contacts!
