I was shocked to find 40 open to the Mainland US (2,300 miles) by 1500 local
time. I was also surprised to hear a number of signals on 160 before the close
at 2000 local time, especially with most stations running only a 100 watts. I
did manage to work a K6 on 160 with only 100 watts to a low G5RV antenna.
