Operating from my VT QTH, "Murphy" was everywhere! Not set up to work
160 up here. Had to tune through 80mtr sloper; old computer was sending poor cw
so I went to manual sending and logging; limited to 100W until I made a common
mode choke which let me get up to 500W reliably. Making the choke was a
laugh...all I had up here was 38' of RG-8X which I wrapped around a piece of old
carpet rolled into an 8" diameter. My wife commented that my office looked
like a scene from the movie Apollo 13. One good thing, my 200' beverage worked
nicely! Conditions Friday night were good and made me wish I were back in DE for
this one. However, DE was well represented anyway.
Now on to ARRL CW in a few weeks. Hoping to get new computer operating.
