Comments:

Considering the current solar flux I was really surprised at the conditions for
this contest, even 10 meters was kinder than usual with several east coast
stations in the log for that band.

Low band operation for about the last two weeks has been hampered by static
crashes from thunderstorms over the Pacific somewhere. These were down to a
minimum for this contest and it really helped on 80 and 160.

Still only SO1R here as I am still putting the station together. Mostly running
here, but spent a little time S/P on 10, 80 and 160.

Several mishaps... The first occurred as I switched to 80 the first night. I
am using a shared apex antenna which hears quite well and use it exclusively to
hear on 80 and 160. After calling CQ for around 5 minutes with "no
answers" I discovered I had a bad PL259 on the end of that coax to the rig.
Spent 15 minutes taking care of that, problem fixed. My apologies to the guys
who called during that period when I was deaf.

Second event was related to 10, 15 20. The Acom 2000 kept kicking off with the
dreaded "arc fault" message. I traced the problem to the Stackmaster
box at the base of the tower. The feed line had a PL-259 that was not making
good contact. I bent the hell out of the center pin so it did. Gotta fix that
for good this week. I lost another 15 or 20 minutes on that one. Other than
that no problems.

Slept for 45 minutes the first night and a couple the second night...pretty
tough on a 71 year old guy.

One last thing. Working SA on 160 SSB is usually pretty tough, butI had to turn
away several stations (LU, PY) who called me there. Where were they in the 160
contest last week?
