Comments:

Was not planning much than a brief part-time effort but the station is fully
back together and the weather was just perfect with a high pressure system over
us and no QRN at all. Hot and dry all the way with no wind. Activity and
conditions seemed good, and I got more and more "into" the WPX as the
weekend progressed.

I ended up operating in stretches, eight in all, from a half-hour long through
four sraight hours at the end. Did an hour Friday night and some off-and-on
Saturday but missed the excellent conditions Saturday afternoon and evening
altogether. Did manage 9.5 hours on Sunday, with good but not great conditions,
although the JA run on 40 predawn was pretty good.

Mostly CQ'ed throughout but got back into the two-ear SO2R groove as Sunday
progressed. I'm rusty. It was great to have little "hi" and
micro-chats along the way with old friends.

For the first time, I found that the high 20 meter yagi (135 feet on the 45G
tower, with a total 230 foot drop-off to both EU and Asia) outperformed the
other antennas in the three-stack. It seemed to get into EU better Saturday when
conditions were pretty flat. Have not tried to simulate the conditions and
confirm that with EZ.nec and would be interested in comments from others.
Usually, that high 5-element does not do as well as the identical ones at 85 and
40 feet (with the same hillside elevation boost).

Congrats to the incredible scores. This is a totally fun contest. It's cool to
give a fist pump when a WB6 rings the imaginary mult bell late in the contest.
Love it! And so many did so well with great efforts. Looking forward to a
serious BIC effort in both the IARU and Sweepstakes later this year.

73, Jim N3BB
