Too bad this contest wasn't one week earlier...

Like many others have said, Saturday wasn't so good. Openings were mostly weak
except for some strong ones in FM grids, and the action was almost exclusively on
FT8. Nearly every time I tuned the CW and SSB segments they were totally empty.
That was weird.

We did catch a better opening late Saturday afternoon to the Caribbean Basin
with stations in YV, HK, HC, HP, TI, PJ4, CO, HH, HI, KP4, FM and maybe more all
running FT8 at the same time. They were very hard to work between the high
volume of callers and FT8 yielding one Q per minute at best.

Sunday started out a little better, but not a whole lot. There was some CW
activity at least. Early afternoon there was brief double-hop to the PacNW and
SoCal but were only able to work W7EW (CN84) and W6L (CN90). We were shut out of
the CM grids. Our DM grids are all in the eastern half (CO/NM/TX), and VE5MX and
WD0T were our only catches in the DN space.

Finally a little after 2000Z the door opened wide to the Northeast spreading
into the Great Lakes. It sure felt good to be able to run rate on CW for a while
. I love FT8 but I can do that all week outside of contests. 73 de WQ5L
