Comments:
With 10m somehwat open, and 15 holding its own, this test required a bit more
strategy than a normal NAQP event at the bottom of the sunspot cycle. I never
felt real comfy with what I was doing early today, but I plugged away. This one
was going to be way more than a 20/40 contest!
Then, with about 80 minutes to go in my time, the 100w amp in my K3 let go,just
as I was getting going on 80m and thinking of the extra mults I would add from
that band. The first failure I've had since my 2011 assembly of the radio. I
thought of just hanging it up, but I was at about 95K points and so wanted to
get over 100K.
Pulling xyl (Sandy N7RQ's) K3 into the fray was not an option this late in the
contest. Too much bother to drag it from her desk to mine, and hook it up, and
we don't have RTTY set up at her desk, so I couldn't move over there. So...what
to do?
I ran 10 watts for the remainder of the contest, that is what I did. I made
enough qso's and extra mults to get over the 100K mult. Not many Runs of course
but still fun.
It's not a particularly good score, but I dont think I hurt my Team too much,
and that was why I continued. The Team contesting aspect of NAQP contests has
always been what has attracted me.
