Comments:
I must be getting soft in my old age (55), because I distinctly remember 4-5 yrs
ago saying that I was going to boycott SS and CQ-P due to the whole
"MAR" vs. "NB" thing. There's no going against decades of
tradition though where the Canadian mults are RAC sections, not Provinces, so
(sighhhhh) I relented as I do enjoy the game and it's hard to sit this one out.
I did find it funny when guys I know....big time active contesters all,
questioned me when I sent "MAR" (hahahahah, I certainly saw the irony
in that)
Spent many hours this past week repairing (raised) radials and whatnot on my
4-squares in the woods, and raising the low end of my ZS6BKW to 41' with a
rebuilt mast.
I was going to be very active this weekend, but the winds came up and the power
was on/off all weekend. (over 100k in VE9 alone w/o power early Sunday
morning).
(A little less in VY2 and VE1)
Then the phone calls from work starting coming and between all that and playing
Dad's taxi, I just lost all interest in SS, so it was an hour here and 30mins
there as allowed.
Coolest Q - VY1AAA.....good copy, snuck in under a loud stn (thanks for the
recording Gerry)
Got some D-QRM from France for a while on the lower end of 20m, but beaming
away, I was able to ignore 99% of their childish antics. Gah!
Lots of recent checks and slower ops, 95% of which I slowed down for.
Lots of 49 checks for W0AIH.....good to see.
I knew better going in, but partway through I disabled call history because
checks and QTH's were only matching up 'most' of the time, but still enough to
throw me off the case, hi ! 'copy what is sent' Mike, copy what is sent.
I could type more I suppose. (someone accused me of getting paid by the word),
but I'll leave it at that. This area of Canada was well represented and I know
there were LOTS and LOTS of folks w/o power in NB, NS and PEI...still are, so my
thoughts are with them. I am lucky to have power and Internet back today.
dit dit !
Mike VE9AA proudly in "NB"...or (mumble mumble, MAR in this one) ;-o
2 IC7410's @ 100w
2nd radio got the new ZS6BKW--almost never used it, 'cept to check on 15m
openings,.
1rst radio got mostly wire 4-squares in the woods.
N3ZN paddle (awesome!)
N1MM+ (awesome as always)
