Comments:
Light flutter on signals Friday and Saturday nights requiring slower code speed
for exchanges, but signals were rock solid by Sunday morning. Enjoyed
discovering all the unusual propagation paths between EU to NA, some open for
only a few minutes. Especially surprised to hear the over the pole path to OH,
LA and SM in the middle of their night.
Conditions, 160 thru 15 meters were halfway decent, especially at this stage in
our solar cycle plus I enjoyed listening to all the talented CW ops in action
this weekend.
Prior to contest start, I traveled to the remote site and installed a 40 meter
inverted-V off an extended arm of the tower at 58 ft., This gave me an
additional antenna on 40 and greatly reduced some local line noise which my
HF2-V vertical, mounted next to the cliff edge frequently hears. Overall, I was
pretty pleased with the performance of my moderate HF remote set-up.
Would have operated a few more hours if it weren't for a busy work week looming
on the horizon.
Looking forward to Jan/Feb 2019 contest events.
Happy Holidays to ALL!
