what interesting propagation eh?!

Greetings to all from Radio Oakley, and a big happy birthday to Ken, N6RO! Ken
is like a father to me, and it is a great honor to operate the N6RO superstation
with my call sign in the mother of all worldwide contests, CQWW CW.

We have an expert team out here in North W6, and despite our geographic
disadvantage continue to operate multi-multi, not for the win, but for the DX
and the experience. I want to congratulate Tim, K3LR and his team for a fine
job... oh and TU for your support for VP6D!!!! my first DXpedition and what a
ride it was! (P.S. I notice you have recruited some NCCC talent for this fine
operation this weekend Tim.. ;-))

Fresh "off the boat" from VP6D for me, And what an interesting contest
it was. The low bands carried the show for us out on the left coast. (did I
say left.. I meant west). anyway the general consensus is it has been at least
10 years since we have seen 160m/80m conditions like this. simply amazing. and
it seems it was worldwide propagation and not just some spotlight advantage.
FB. amazing for the entire team we are proud of our low band operation.

We had several operators man our 40m stack, that I maintain is one of the best
arrays in the 5th largest economy in the world.

N6RO wanted me to mention he was disappointed with the 80/160 LP opportunities
this go round.. despite the fantastic DP capabilities (we choose to take it)
our usual LP opportunities seemed suppressed. Ken is a Master low band
operator and knows his stuff.. so That is the word from W6.

We had a great multi-op team. hear is how we manned the bands

10M (N6WM N6RO)-- a very enthusiastic N6WM and N6RO.
As expected. lots of work for a few double mults. but fun none the less! Ken
sure knows how to conjure up something from nothing. like those 2 minute
openings. amazing!

15m (N6WM -- captain) This show was all me. I am the 15m captain, and captain I
did. If i heard it I worked it. thanks!

20M (K3EST - captain) Our 20m captain is Bob, K3EST. arguably on of the best BIC
examples in contesting. Bob sits down and drains 20M from Radio Oakley. We
actually are not sure how he does this without going to the bathroom. ;-). a
contest machine. Bob is a master and had a great time, with an amazing DX count
from here.

40M(WA6O - captain,NA6O,WX5S,N6RO) Handled by my friend and co-expeditioneer
Mike WA6O with help from . Mike really knows how to drive the 40m stack, and had
some backup from the team

80M(NA6O Fri captain, WX5S sat captain)
**Super good prop alert**
Friday night anchored by station integration master NA6O. Gary says that EU was
open from 5:30 to 11:30. essentially on fire from W6 perspective. Mat WX5S
took over on Saturday night.. and just continued to pad the log with great DX.
amazing 80m condx.

160M
*Unprecidented good prop alert*
(N6RO captain, K6DAJ, N6WM)

I had some extra time at the station Friday night, so Kicked off on 160 myself.
after I had the 3rd EU in the log, I called for N6RO to take over and enjoy one
of the best openings on record for 160M and CQWW CW. I am still processing the
totals. but this does not happen very often. at all. Happy Birthday Ken.

net net. Another great WorldWide CW test. We are not in it to win it. We are
in it to test our operating capabilities from a difficult prop location, and the
thrill of putting the DX in the log.. the harder the better.

We have a great team of amazing operators. Like I mentioned, Ken is like a
father to me, but these are my brothers. We have fun working the DX and dcing
the best we can do from North W6. The low bands carried us this time, besting
last years efforts despite anemic upper band conditions. I would imaginge thee
will be talk some time of the 80/160M cqww 2018 experience.

Best 73 from the entire team at Radio Oakley from the great state of California
and thanks for all the q's

Stacks (like big ones) on 10-40, 4sq quad on 80, 4sq on 160

Flex 6600 driving PGXL on 10/15 K3's and various power tools on all other
bands.

seeya next time!

Chris
N6WM
for the entire Radio Oakley N6WM cqww Team
