This was my 4th year down in ZF for this contest as a single op. Unfortunately
every year, the propagation gets worse and the score goes down. It's hard to
feel like you are progressing when the score is always less. That being said,
we were blessed this year with amazing low band conditions. I have a feeling
people will be talking about this running of CQWW for many years to come.
As always, this contest would not be possible from down here without help from a
big supporting cast. Icom was gracious enough to loan me 3 IC7610's for this
contest. The radios held up well in this crazy SO3R environment. Andrew ZF1EJ
is purchasing one of them so you will probably hear him on the air in the near
future with his new toy. I was also lucky to be able to use an Inrad W1 headset
for this contest. The biggest test for a headset is a 48 hour event, and I made
it thru without any discomfort. K6AM, head skunk at the skunkworks, worked his
magic again this year providing me with new secret boxes to use. All secret
boxes worked flawlessly.
Part of the motivation to do this contest year after year is the stiff
competition at the top of the SOAB standings every year. Chris KL9A and I spent
the last year insulting each other every chance we got. If people didn't
understand that we are actually good friends they would probably think we lost
our minds, but again that is part of the fun. We look forward to competing
every year with CT1BOH and N2NT. This year, Yuri joined the fun from PZ5T and
proved that you can make a much better score from 3 pt land. Congrats on a
great effort and I hope every joins in the fun again next year.
Thanks to everyone for the q's, and I will be back for more madness next year.
